How we operate

The goal of 10-8 Scuba is to use the transformational experience of scuba diving to encourage healing for first responders (the client) with PTSD and other injuries. Funded through donations, we identify and work with a dive center that is local to the client to cover the cost of their basic scuba certification. We are not specific to any one training agency or location. We can employ our program anywhere in the United States and its territories.

To qualify, the first responder must have been subjected to a debilitating physical or mental injury while in the lawful course of their duties of their job.

In the future, we hope to grow to be able to support ongoing activity and outings for clients

If you are, or know of a particular first responder that you believe would benefit from our program, please contact us. Furthermore, we can earmark donations for that qualifying individual.

For the purposes of eligibility for our program, we recognize the following as first responders:

  • Peace Officers (employed by a governmental/tribal agency with arrest powers)
  • Corrections Officers (employed by a governmental/tribal agency)
  • Firefighters
  • EMS
  • Communications operators (911 center call takers and dispatchers for police, fire, and EMS)
